Surf Therapy FAQs
Who can participate?
Surf therapy sessions are open to any CF patient 7 or older and up to 2 of their guests.
What will be provided?
Surfboards and instruction
Use of Rash Guard
Drinks (water and Gatorade), Cooler, and ice
Lite snacks (energy bars, bananas, and other treats)
What do I need to bring?
How much does this cost?
The 3rd Street Society is a Non-Profit dedicated to serving the CF community. There is no charge for this service for CF patients and their guests.
Can I bring my own gear/supplies? If so what is appropriate?
Feel free to bring any personal item with you from beach chairs to cameras. Our volunteers will ensure the safety of your personal belongings during your visit.
How many people can I bring?
You can invite up to 2 friends or family members to participate in the surf activity and instruction. Feel free to invite any supporters or spectators you would like to have to take photos of your day or cheer you on!
What happens if there is a storm or rain?
If the forecast is not favorable 24 hours prior to the scheduled event, we will immediately reschedule for the next available day. In the event that inclement weather appears during the activity, we will ensure the safety of all participants and evacuate the area and re-assess after 30 minutes. If the weather does not clear, we will immediately reschedule for the next available day.
How long are the events?
The total time of our activity will be 4 hours. This includes warm-up, stretching, and surf instruction.
What if I need to cancel?
We ask that you please give a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel.
What kind of medical assistance will be available in case of emergency?
We will always have CPR certified staff and medical professionals volunteering during our surf therapy in the event of an emergency situation.
How big are the waves?
Folly beach is known for its mild swell and easy waves that is suitable for beginners.
